Fog Disc and Time Clock
A dense fog covered the town's cobbled square, while the lights of the street lamps reflected in the wet puddles. It was nighttime when Victor returned from a school meeting. The smell of rain and old wood lingered in the air. Little did Victor know that everything would change that night.
Victor was seventeen years old and had a mind full of scepticism. He believed in logic and science and put off dreams. Lena, his friend, was his opposite: dreamy, spontaneous, always with her head in the clouds. That evening they met by chance on the corner by an abandoned antique shop, which seemed to be the oldest building in the whole town.
The door of the antique shop was ajar, although the shop had theoretically been out of business for years. Victor felt an unusual impulse, and Lena immediately offered to enter. They quietly crossed the threshold. The interior smelled of dust and old paper. The wooden shelves bowed under the weight of books, and the air vibrated with a strange energy. In the corner, on the floor, lay a peculiar object - a small metal disc covered with engraved symbols. In the middle was a blue crystal that glittered disturbingly.
Lena carefully lifted the disc, and a light flashed in the room. Before they had time to react, the room spun in a blur around them. For a moment, all they felt was a buzzing in their ears and the sensation of falling. When the image came into focus, they saw that they were standing in the same market square, but surrounded by people dressed in costumes from centuries ago. The town hall was not yet there, and there was a smithy on the site of the shop.
They tried to return to the antique shop, but instead of the familiar entrance, they saw an old gate with iron fittings. Victor was nervously looking around when Lena noticed that the disk in her hand was pulsating more and more strongly. To the surprise of both of them, a rough voice reached their ears:
- Who are you and what are you looking for in our square at this hour? - Asked a growing man with a beard, approaching slowly. Behind him, more silhouettes of the inhabitants appeared.
Victor felt his heart beating faster and faster, and Lena squeezed the disk tightly. At the same moment, the crystal flashed even more intensely, and a piece of old parchment inscribed with strange, familiar symbols fell out of the darkness to their feet. They both looked at each other, aware that their decisions right now could affect the future not only of them, but also of the entire city.
Suddenly, a hooded figure emerged from behind the occupants, pointing at Victor and Lena. The whole crowd froze, and you could feel the tension in the air....
