The old corridors of the university were shrouded in silence. Most of the students had long since left the university walls, but there were still three sitting on the third floor of the library: Julia, Roman and Matthew. Each had their own reasons for staying up so late - Julia was studying for her art history exam, Roman was looking for inspiration for a story, and Matthew... he just liked the thrill that the empty halls and the semi-darkness between the bookcases gave him. Just then Matthew noticed that one of the shelves was gently moving. He stepped closer and Julia and Roman looked at each other in disbelief. A small, almost invisible drawer had moved away in the shadows. Inside lay an old leather-bound book, without title or author. - 'It looks like a prop from a horror film,' whispered Julia, but Matthew was already opening the bound volume. On the first page was a handwritten text: "Whoever reads these words must be ready for the consequences. Knowledge is a power, but also... a curse." Roman smiled nervously. - Why don't we leave it here? - he suggested, but Julia was already leafing through more pages. Each contained drawings of unfamiliar symbols, numbers that arranged themselves in puzzling sequences, and towards the end of the book, names were written down - unfamiliar at first, but growing more familiar with each passing moment. Matthew suddenly turned pale. Among the inscribed names, he spotted his own. Julia and Roman also found their names, each next to a strange description and a mysterious date. Outside the window, the wind wailed. At the same moment, the light in the library began to flicker, and a low, deafening sound came from under the cupboard....
