A night at the Antique Shop under the Clock

A night at the Antique Shop under the Clock
The old antique shop on Larch Street had its glory years long ago. Inside, under heavy bookcases and in the shadow of a huge pendulum clock, you could find almost anything - porcelain figurines, faded photographs, hats from a previous era and books that smelled of dust and a bygone time. It was there, on that inconspicuous Friday evening, that Nicolas - a history student, lover of things with a soul and avid seeker of antiquities - turned up. He had been working in the antique shop for five months, but still did not know all its nooks and crannies. That day, the owner, the eccentric Mrs Alina, asked him to stay longer as she had to leave to visit relatives. When night came and the door was locked with a heavy key, Nicolas set about sorting out the new supplies. He stacked some heavy volumes on the shelves, rearranged a wicker trunk and... then he heard a quiet sigh. He looked around, thinking it was just the wind, but there were no open windows in the antique shop. The clock struck twenty-three o'clock, the pendulum rocked gloomily. At the same moment, a slight giggle came to him from the depths of the bookcase. "Don't touch me, boy, or I'll fall to pieces!" - exclaimed an old olive lamp. Nikolai jumped up and dropped the book on the floor. As if that wasn't enough, the tennis boxers on the mannequin spoke in a mischievous accent: "Clean me first, only then watch!" Nikolai couldn't believe his ears. The objects in the antique shop had come to life! He breathed deeply and started asking questions, wanting to find out what was going on here. The pendulum clock rang out with solemnity: "Only the brave will know the history of this place. But not everything you hear at night is true." Suddenly, the light flickered and everything went silent. A black box with a nickel lock, which had not been there before, appeared on the bookcase. Around it, porcelain cups whispered, warning: "Don't open it if you're not ready for the consequences...". Nikolai approached the box, feeling the tension building up. What will he find inside? Would he dare to learn the history of the antique shop from a whole new perspective? At that moment, another voice rang out - this time right behind his back: "Before you choose, you have to sacrifice something..."
