Zosia spots a strange rainbow flower in her garden, and when she reaches for it, little lights begin to swirl and a mysterious voice calls from inside.
Zosia loved looking out from her bedroom window first thing in the morning. She liked the way the sun woke the dewdrops one by one and how the birds hopped from branch to branch in the old apple trees. Every morning the garden looked exactly the same.
Then, one day, it didn’t.
Right at the end of the flower bed stood a blossom so huge and bright that Zosia forgot to breathe. Its petals were all the colours of the rainbow, and their tips shimmered as if someone had sprinkled them with stardust during the night. Zosia pushed the window open and hurried outside on bare feet.
“Where did you come from?” she whispered.
The moment her fingers touched one soft leaf, a ring of tiny lights spun around her wrists. Brush, the kitten, burst out from behind the bushes and skidded to a stop. Then he began to twirl in circles around the flower, his fur flashing with tiny sparks of colour.
Zosia stared. Something glowed deep inside the blossom, blinking like a secret lantern. She leaned closer, and the petals quivered. Slowly, slowly, they opened wider.
A sweet, singing voice floated out from the middle of the flower. “If you want to see something special, close your eyes and think of your biggest dream.”
Zosia shut her eyes. Her heart thumped hard in her chest. Then the flower whispered, “But first, tell me... what dream are you hiding?”
