Little Viking Nicholas and his friends follow a strange clue into the forest behind their village, where a green dragon may be waiting in the shadows.
Far away, where the fjord glittered like silver and the mountains rose tall and blue, lived a little Viking named Nicholas. He wore armour that shone like fish scales, and on his helmet sat a bright, cheeky bird that bobbed its head at every step. His cat Tosia followed him everywhere, and so did his friend Olek, who never took off his pink hat.
One morning, the three of them were playing on the shore when the grass behind the rocks began to rustle.
Out popped a tiny troll with a round nose and muddy boots. He leaned close and whispered, "Nicholas, I saw a dragon. A green one, as green as moss. It lives where the forest ends."
Nicholas blinked. Tosia's tail shot up. Olek clutched his pink hat with both hands.
A dragon? Here, near their village?
The children turned toward the dark line of trees. The forest stood still and quiet, but now it did not feel empty. It felt like it was waiting.
Nicholas took one careful step forward. Then another. Tosia slipped ahead of him, and Olek swallowed hard and followed.
Just as they reached the first shadowy branches, something deep in the forest answered with a low, long rumble....
