Vanishing Chocolate Cake

Willy the Squirrel’s round chocolate cake keeps losing pieces. He hides to catch the sneaky thief, but something even stranger is about to happen.

On a bright spring morning in the forest that never slept, Willy the Squirrel baked a chocolate cake all by himself. It was round as the window in his little wooden house, and the top was crowded with shiny nuts from Mrs Owl.

Willy admired it with a proud little grin. Then he went off to invite his friends for a taste.

When he came back, the cake was smaller.

Willy blinked. One slice was gone.

He looked under the table. He looked behind the sugar jar. He even peeped into the teapot, just in case a cake-eating teapot had moved in.

Nothing.

Willy scratched his head. “That is very rude cake business,” he muttered.

So he made a plan. He put the cake back on the kitchen table, tiptoed behind the curtain, and held his breath. If the cake disappeared again, he would catch the culprit red-pawed.

Outside, the sun slid behind a cloud. The room grew cooler and quieter.

Then the kitchen door creaked open, very, very slowly...
