Tosia finds an old watch in her grandmother's house and is whisked away with her cat Almond into a strange time long ago.
Tosia loved exploring her grandmother's house, especially on rainy days when the windows shivered with thunder. That afternoon, she and her red cat, Almond, were rummaging through an old drawer full of ribbon, buttons, and paper clips.
Her fingers touched something cold. She pulled out a strange little watch. It was shiny, round, and had tiny coloured buttons along the strap.
Tosia held it up to the lamp. Almond leapt onto the table, stretched his whiskers toward it, and gave a soft purr, as if he knew a secret.
Tosia smiled and pressed the biggest red button.
At once, a ring of rainbow light spun around them. The room tipped and twirled. Books fluttered off the shelf. The cuckoo clock went ku-ku, ku-ku, ku-ku, faster and faster, until everything flashed white.
When Tosia blinked, the drawer, the lamp, and Grandma's house were gone.
Tall ferns swayed around her. Butterflies the size of umbrellas drifted through the air. Far away, something heavy thudded on the ground.
Almond clung to her sleeve. Tosia turned slowly, and then she saw it: a huge dinosaur, watching her from the green shadows, and taking one careful step closer.
