On a rainy visit to the library, Tosia finds an odd green wardrobe hidden in a corridor. When she opens it, she steps into a strange fairytale world and meets a blue rabbit with an urgent message.
Tosia loved the library. It always smelled of paper, dust, and a little bit of magic.
One rainy afternoon, she stood in the fairy-tale section, tracing the bright spines of the books with her finger. That was when she noticed the narrow corridor at the back of the room. At the very end stood an old green wardrobe.
It did not belong there. It was too tall, too shiny, and far too mysterious for a library full of quiet shelves. Even the little lock on its door seemed to glitter at her.
Tosia glanced at the librarian, who was busy straightening a stack of books, and tiptoed closer. The wardrobe gave off a faint humming sound, as if it were holding its breath.
She leaned in and pressed her ear to the door.
Inside, she heard soft laughter. Then a whisper. Then another. It sounded as if someone on the other side was telling stories.
Tosia’s heart jumped. She grasped the handle and slowly pulled.
The door creaked open.
There was no dark closet inside. Instead, a bright meadow shimmered before her, full of giant glowing flowers and tiny butterflies the color of jewels. A path made of open books curved away through the grass and disappeared into the distance.
Tosia took one careful step forward.
At once, a small blue rabbit in a round hat appeared beside her and bowed.
“I was waiting for you, Tosia,” he whispered. “We have to hurry. The Great Riddle is already waiting.”
Tosia opened her mouth to ask what he meant, but a strange rustle rolled through the meadow. The flowers bent low. The book-path shivered.
Then a shadow in a cloak began to rise from the grass.
