Tosia finds a strange green cape in the garden and discovers she can float, just as a shy mouse and a whisper pull her toward a secret.
In a quiet little town lived seven-year-old Tosia, who loved splashing in puddles and collecting bright pebbles in her pocket.
One sunny afternoon, she slipped into the garden behind the house and stopped short. On the grass lay a shiny green cape, smooth as a leaf and bright as frog skin. It had not been there before.
Tosia knelt down and brushed it with one finger.
A warm tingle ran up her arm. Then her toes left the ground.
Tosia gasped and grabbed at the air. She was floating, just a little, above the grass. Her shadow on the lawn twirled like it was dancing all by itself.
From behind a rose bush, a small shy mouse peeked out with twitching whiskers. It looked nervous, as if it had lost something important.
Tosia opened her mouth to speak, but a whisper brushed past her ear.
"If you want to know the secret, follow the green hat..."
She looked up. Across the garden, a tiny green hat was moving on its own, slipping between the flowers as if it knew exactly where to go.
