Tosia and the Green Door

Tosia finds a tiny green door in her garden tree and peeks into a bright, strange world full of butterflies and dancing mushrooms. Then the door whispers her name.

In Tosia’s garden stood an old tree with a wide, cool shadow. Tosia liked that tree best of all. She sat beneath it to dream up stories, count clouds, and hide when the sun felt too hot.

One afternoon, while she searched through the leaves for a lost ball, Tosia stopped very still. Something new was in the trunk. A tiny green door.

It had silver stars on it and a little frog-shaped handle. Tosia blinked. She was sure it had not been there yesterday. Or even this morning.

She knelt in the grass and bent close to the keyhole. Inside, she saw a world she had never seen before. Bright butterflies floated over a red lake. Purple mushrooms swayed back and forth, as if they were dancing to music only they could hear.

Then the door gave a soft creak.

A quiet little voice came from the other side.

"Hello, Tosia. Do you want to come in?"

Tosia held her breath and looked at the frog-shaped handle. The green door seemed to wait for her.
