Tosia and the Pebble That Glowed

Tosia finds a strange blue pebble in her garden. It grows warm, begins to glow, and seems to whisper a secret that leads her toward the yellow flowers.

Tosia loved wandering through her garden and collecting pebbles. She liked the smooth ones, the round ones, and the ones with tiny specks that sparkled in the sun.

One bright morning, she crouched under the currant bush and noticed something shining in the grass. It was a small blue pebble, no bigger than her thumb. When Tosia picked it up, it shimmered with rainbow light.

The pebble felt warm in her palm.

Then it glowed even brighter.

Tosia looked around. The garden still seemed like her garden, with the same path, the same leaves, and the same red currants hanging low. But the birds were singing louder than before, and a soft whisper brushed past her ear.

“Find the place where the yellow flowers grow...”

Tosia held her breath. Yellow flowers grew in one corner of the garden, near the little wicket gate. She took a few careful steps that way, the glowing pebble tight in her hand.

Then, from somewhere ahead, came a quiet ringing sound.

Tosia stopped.

Something had moved by the gate.
