Ada discovers that her old wardrobe is hiding a glowing secret. When she and Fluffy peek inside, something on the other side begins to wake up.
Ada loved quiet afternoons in her room. Her books waited on the shelf, her crayons lay in a bright box, and Fluffy the teddy bear sat on her pillow, always ready for an adventure.
That day, Ada stopped in front of her old wardrobe.
The door was not quite shut.
A thin line of blue light slipped through the crack and spilled across the floor like moonlight. Ada frowned. The wardrobe had never done that before.
She stepped closer and heard a soft, rushing sound.
It was a little like water moving over stones.
Ada held Fluffy tight. “Do you hear that?” she whispered.
Fluffy did not answer, but his button eyes seemed to watch the glowing gap with her.
Ada reached out and pulled the door wider.
Her breath caught.
There were no coats or jumpers inside.
Instead, the wardrobe opened onto a whirl of shining colours, spinning round and round like a tiny storm. In the middle of it was a round, bright doorway, quivering as if it were waiting for her.
Ada felt a funny tingle in her hands.
Then the doorway gave a low hum, and the light surged brighter and brighter, as if something on the other side had just noticed her.
