The Hidden Passage Behind the Library Wall

Marta, Maks, and Lena find a secret door hidden in the school library, and step into a world that should not exist.

The school library was usually so quiet that even turning a page felt too loud. But that afternoon, while they waited for the teacher, Marta, Maks, and Lena were restless enough to notice everything: the dust drifting in the light, the sleepy ticking of the clock, the long wall of bookcases standing in a row like guards.

Marta slid her fingers along the spines of the old books until one thick encyclopaedia stopped her hand. It was heavier than the others, and set just a little too far back. She frowned and tugged at it.

Nothing happened.

"Help me," she whispered.

Maks hurried over, and Lena followed, eyes narrowed with curiosity. The three of them pulled together. The book groaned. The shelf shivered. Then, with a low creak that made them all freeze, the bookcase began to shift away from the wall.

Behind it was a narrow door no one could have noticed from the room. It was almost lost in the shadows, with a twisted silver key hanging from a chain beside it, as if someone had left it there on purpose.

Lena took one step back. "Should it be there?"

"Only one way to find out," Maks said, though his voice had gone tight.

Marta reached for the key first. It was cold in her hand. When she slid it into the lock, it turned at once, as if the door had been waiting for her. The wood gave a soft, tired sigh, and the door swung open.

A cool rush of air spilled out, carrying a strange shimmering light that painted the dusty floor in blue and gold. Marta stared into the opening, her breath catching.

"This isn't a passage," she whispered. "It's a place."

They stepped through together.

The door shut behind them with a sharp bang.

For one stunned moment, none of them moved. Then they looked around and forgot how to speak. Books floated overhead like birds. Trees glittered with tiny lights. A river drifted through the air in a silver ribbon, turning and curling between the roots of impossible branches.

Maks opened his mouth to say something, but a rustle swept through the glowing trees ahead of them. Leaves trembled. The light flickered.

Something was coming straight toward them.
