At the end of a quiet street stood a small house with a bright room that Pola loved more than any other place. It was full of books, toys, and the sort of little treasures a child always wants to keep close. On a rainy afternoon, while the drops tapped against the window, Pola began tidying her chest of drawers.
That was when she saw it. The bottom drawer was not closed all the way. Pola stopped and frowned. She was sure it had always stayed locked. She knelt down, held her breath, and pulled the tiny knob.
The drawer slid open with a soft creak. Inside lay a blue key, a rolled-up paper tied with a gold ribbon, and a card with a map of her room drawn on it. Pola's eyes grew wide.
