Lena and Adam find a hidden door in their grandmother’s cellar and step toward a strange, glowing passage that should not exist.
It was a wet, gloomy evening, and Lena and her younger brother Adam were rummaging through their grandmother’s cellar in search of board games. The house always seemed to be full of half-forgotten corners and old surprises: ticking clocks with cracked faces, carved wooden boxes that smelled of dust and lavender, and shelves crowded with things no one had touched in years.
Then Adam froze. “Lena, look!” he whispered, pointing beneath the stairs.
Tucked behind a hanging web of cobwebs was a tiny door, almost swallowed by the shadows. The handle was cold under her fingers, and for a moment the door seemed to hum, as if it had been waiting for them.
“Maybe Grandma forgot it was here,” Adam said, though his voice had gone small.
He lifted an old torch from a nearby shelf and shone it at the crack beneath the door. Nothing moved. No sound came from the other side. Still, Lena felt a prickle along her arms, the kind that told her to run and stay at the same time. She swallowed, then pressed the handle.
The lock gave a soft, rusty click.
The door swung inward on a sigh of cold air, revealing not a cupboard or a crawl space, but a narrow corridor glittering like crystal. Blue light shimmered along its walls, and somewhere deep inside, something sounded like wind passing through leaves. Adam leaned forward first. Lena grabbed the torch tighter and followed him one step at a time.
At the far end of the corridor, a second doorway began to glow. Colours swirled inside it, brighter and brighter, until the light filled the passage. Then Adam’s shoulder brushed the wall, and with a sharp, hidden click, something shifted beneath the floor. The glowing doorway flared, and the whole corridor came alive around them....
