Seven-year-old Zosia finds a glowing blue door inside her wardrobe and steps toward a strange world full of light and whispering voices.
One rainy afternoon, Zosia sat on her bedroom floor and lined up her teddy bears in a neat row. The room was quiet except for the patter of rain on the window.
Then something flickered inside the wardrobe.
Zosia looked up. In the dark wood at the back of the closet, a tiny blue door was glowing softly, as if it had been waiting there all along. It had a round handle like a shiny pebble. A faint buzzing came from behind it, so gentle it almost sounded like someone whispering her name.
Zosia stood very still. Her heart tapped fast and light, like a little bird in her chest. She reached out, touched the cold handle, and pulled.
The door opened with a soft creak.
Zosia blinked.
The wardrobe was gone.
In its place stretched a wide meadow under a twilight sky. Mushrooms in pink, gold, and green shone like lanterns in the grass. Small rabbit-like creatures bounced past, each one with tiny wings fluttering on its back.
"Oh," Zosia breathed. "Is this a dream?"
A voice drifted through the glowing field.
"We’ve been waiting for you, Zosia."
Zosia took one careful step forward. The grass was warm under her feet. Behind her, the little blue door gave a sudden bright hum, and from deep in the meadow, something moved in the shadows between the glowing mushrooms.
