The Blue Door in the Library

Basia and her kitten Almond find a tiny blue door hidden in an old library. When Basia touches the handle, the door glows and something strange begins to stir behind it.

On a rainy afternoon, Basia went to the library with her kitten, Almond. Almond padded along beside her, pausing to sniff the bookshelves and peek under the tables.

The library was warm and quiet, with tall shelves, soft lamps, and the smell of old paper in the air. Basia was looking for a picture book when something unusual caught her eye. In the far corner, behind a big yellow curtain, stood a tiny blue door.

Basia blinked. She had never seen it before.

"Almond, look," she whispered.

The kitten gave a tiny mew and sat very still. The door had a golden handle and little stars painted around the frame. Basia stepped closer. Her heart thumped fast. A hidden room? A secret place? Maybe even a shelf full of special books?

She reached out and touched the handle.

At once, the door gave off a bright flash. A soft laugh floated out, then a whispering rustle, like leaves being shaken by a breeze. Almond sprang onto Basia's shoulder, his fur all puffed up.

Basia took one careful breath, looked at Almond, and slowly pulled the door open.

Beyond it was not the library at all. It was something sparkling and strange, and just as Basia leaned forward, a tiny shadow moved inside.
