The Secret Door in Susie’s Room

On a rainy day, Susie finds a tiny blue door in her room and steps into a strange, sweet world full of butterflies, sugar trees, and a whisper calling her name.

Rain tapped softly at Susie’s window while she built a tower of blocks on the rug.

She was reaching for the last block when she saw it.

In the corner of her room, where there had only been wallpaper before, stood a tiny blue door.

Susie stared. It had a gold handle and stars that sparkled like bits of moonlight.

She took one careful step closer. Then another.

The door seemed to wait for her.

Susie touched the handle. It was cool and smooth. She pulled.

Creeeeak.

The door opened just wide enough for her to peek through.

Susie gasped.

Beyond it was a bright forest where lollipops grew from the ground and fluffy candyfloss hung from the branches. Big butterflies in little hats drifted through the air. Under a sugar tree sat a small green dragon, smiling as if it knew a secret.

Susie’s heart gave a tiny jump. The place was wonderful. It was also very strange.

Still, she stepped through.

The air on the other side smelled sweet, like strawberries and rain.

Then a soft whisper brushed past her ear.

“Hello, Susie. I’ve been waiting for you.”

She turned around fast.

No one was there.

Only the candy trees, the hat-wearing butterflies, and the small green dragon, who had just looked up and pointed one tiny claw toward the shadows between the sugar trunks....
