The Hidden Door in Antek's Wardrobe

When Antek finds a tiny door in his wardrobe, he steps into a bright, strange world full of wonder and a little mystery.

Antek was six, and he loved books about distant lands, secret tunnels, and strange creatures. One rainy afternoon, his mother told him to tidy his room. Antek sighed, pushed aside a pile of old jigsaw puzzles, and knelt by the bottom of the wardrobe.

That was when he saw it.

A small round door sat hidden in the wood, no bigger than a plate. It had a tiny golden handle right in the middle. Antek frowned. He was sure it had not been there before. He touched the handle lightly, and the door opened with a soft click.

Warm air drifted out. Somewhere inside, something laughed, but it was not his mother’s laugh and not his brother’s either. Bright colours flashed in the gap, blue, yellow, and pink, as if someone had trapped a rainbow behind the door.

Antek looked back at his bedroom once, then leaned closer and slipped his head through.

On the other side, there was no shelf, no hanging coats, no dusty boxes. There was a wide meadow of blue grass, trees with fluffy pink leaves, and tiny purple rabbits hopping in circles. Far off in the distance, balloons floated and bobbed in the sky like they were dancing.

A little voice piped up from somewhere in the grass. “Hi. Who are you?”

Antek opened his mouth to answer.

Then something rustled softly behind him.
