Franek and Susie find silver feathers and a strange glowing secret beneath the oldest oak in the woods.
Franek lived in a small house at the edge of the forest, where the trees leaned close and whispered in the wind. After school, his best friend Susie often came over, and together they liked to wander among the roots and shadows, looking for hidden things.
One warm afternoon, Franek burst out of the house and waved her toward the trees.
"Come on," he called. "I found something amazing."
They hurried into the woods until they reached the old oak tree. It stood wider and taller than all the others, with a thick trunk and branches that spread like giant arms. The children had sat beneath it many times before, but today the ground under the tree looked different.
Small silver feathers lay in the grass, shining softly in the sun. Beside them was a flat stone with letters worn smooth by time.
Susie bent down and stared. "Where did those come from?"
Franek touched one feather with one finger. It felt soft, almost warm.
Then he pointed at the tree. "Look. There’s a hole in the bark."
They stepped closer. Inside the dark hollow, something gave off a tiny glow. It looked like a little box, bright with flashes of red and blue, but they could not see it clearly.
A faint rustle moved through the leaves above them.
The children looked up. The branches of the oak were swaying, slow and careful, even though the air around them was still.
Franek held out his hand toward the hollow.
Just then, a quiet giggle drifted from deep inside the leaves.
