Pola the mouse and Tadek the frog find a shining pebble by the lake, but something moves in the reeds and the quiet water seems to hold a secret.
Deep in the humming forest, where birds called from the treetops and squirrels dashed along the branches, lived Pola the mouse. Pola liked the Forest Lake best of all, because every morning it looked a little different.
One morning, when sunlight glittered on the water, Pola spotted Tadek the frog hopping by the shore. He was so excited that his back legs wobbled.
"Pola! Come quickly!" he called. "There’s something shiny in the grass by the lake!"
Pola hurried over, her whiskers twitching. There, tucked between the green blades, lay a small pebble. It was round and smooth, striped with blue, gold, and red. When Pola leaned closer, it gave a faint sparkle, as if it were blinking at them.
"It looks like magic," Pola breathed.
Tadek blinked. "Or maybe it belongs to someone."
Pola lifted one tiny paw. Just as her toes touched the pebble, the reeds behind them gave a sudden rustle.
Both friends froze.
Something was moving in the grass beside the lake...
