Zosia and Fafik find strange coloured clouds over the park, and each one brings a different feeling. But one shifting cloud is unlike the others, and Zosia has to find out why.
One bright morning, Zosia hurried to the park behind her house with Fafik trotting at her side. The grass was soft, the trees were still, and the meadow they loved was glowing in the sun.
Then Zosia stopped so fast that Fafik bumped her knee.
Above the meadow, clouds were floating low in the sky. But these were not white clouds. One was yellow like butter. One was pink like a raspberry ice cream. One was blue, deep and quiet as the sea.
"Fafik, look," Zosia whispered, bending down to hug him. Fafik’s tail thumped once, twice, then faster and faster.
Zosia held out one finger and touched the yellow cloud.
A warm, fizzy feeling tickled her belly, and suddenly she wanted to laugh. The blue cloud drifted close next. As soon as its cool mist brushed her hand, her smile faded and she felt like resting her chin on Fafik’s furry head.
Zosia blinked. "They’re feelings," she said softly. "The clouds are feelings."
Fafik gave a small bark, as if he understood.
Then Zosia saw something new.
Behind the others, a cloud shimmered and changed colour every second. Gold. Green. Silver. Purple. It swelled larger than the rest and floated lower and lower, straight toward the meadow.
Zosia stepped back, her heart thudding.
"Fafik..." she whispered. The strange cloud slowed, as if it had noticed her too.
