Lenka explores the Gold Star Circus and finds a starry chest backstage. When it starts to rattle and glow, she steps closer and wonders what is hidden inside.
Lenka loved the circus. So when the Gold Star Circus rolled into town, she could hardly sit still. The tents gleamed in the sun, the balloons bobbed in the air, and Bimbuś the clown made everyone laugh with his giant shoes and silly bow tie.
After the show, Lenka slipped behind the curtain and peered into the busy backstage area. There, half hidden behind a painted crate, stood a small chest covered in gold stars. A heavy padlock clinked on the front. It looked far too important to touch.
Captain Feather's parrot was perched right beside it. The bird fluffed its feathers and squawked, "Only the brave will know the secret of this chest!"
Lenka's eyes grew wide. Bimbuś, passing by with a bundle of scarves, gave her a quick wink, as if he knew something he would not say out loud.
Then the padlock twitched.
Lenka held her breath. A soft laugh floated out from inside the chest, followed by a tiny flash of coloured light that slipped through the crack.
She reached out slowly, her fingers almost touching the starry lid.
The chest gave one soft, mysterious rattle.
