The missing star from the Christmas tree

On Christmas Eve, Hania and Olek receive a letter. The lights twinkle and footsteps in the snow lead to the balcony. What can they hear in the darkness and who is waiting there?

It's Christmas Eve and the snow is quietly falling. The house smells of gingerbread and sweet oranges. Hania and Olek are decorating the Christmas tree together with Grandma. Dad hangs the lights, mum stirs the borscht in the pot. The dog Bubbles sleeps under the table and snores.

Suddenly, the lights twinkle a few times, then go out. In the silence, the gentle sound of a bell can be heard. Under the table lies an envelope with a shiny star. On the envelope is written: For Hania and Olek. Hania opens the envelope very carefully, trembling a little. Inside is a card with a short letter. Without it, his sleigh will not fly today. At the end is a large signature: Santa Claus.

Outside the balcony door you can see tiny hoofprints. Silver snow dust glitters on the windowsill. "Shall we go?" whispers Olek and grabs a torch. Hania puts on her jacket, hat and warm gloves. They open the door and feel the cold air. Somewhere above the roof, quiet bells ring. Suddenly something moves in the white snowdrift. Hania picks up her torch and shines it straight there. The snowdrift trembles and something protrudes from under the snow. A thin, close sound is heard: ding, ding, ding.
