Piko and the Circus on Ice

Piko the little penguin dreams of the circus, and one snowy day a real circus rolls onto the ice. Bright lights, strange sounds, and one brave leap lead him toward something surprising.

In a bright, snowy land where penguins slid down frozen hills and splashed through icy pools, one little penguin named Piko had a dream that felt too big for his small flippers.

He would stand on the snow and stare up at the sky, imagining a circus made of shining lights, fluttering flags, and applause that sounded like a whole flock of wings. He wanted to be the most famous penguin on the ice.

At night, while the other penguins snored softly in their warm ice caves, Piko practised. He tumbled. He spun. He balanced a fish on his beak and, just once, even tried walking on his hands. His feet wobbled, his belly slid, and sometimes he landed in a snowdrift, but Piko kept going.

Then, one day, while he was practising a tricky flip, he heard it.

Trumpets.

They floated over the ice like magic.

Piko froze, his heart thumping. He turned toward the sound and saw a trail of coloured tents, sparkling poles, and tall wagons rolling across the snow.

A real circus had come to his land.

Piko’s eyes grew wide. This was his chance. He peered around the snowy field, then scampered toward the wagons until he found one covered in a thick layer of frost. It was parked at the edge of the circus, just behind a stack of ropes and bright red crates.

He slipped inside and held his breath.

The wagon gave a little creak.

Then, from somewhere very close by, a voice called, “Who is in my costume trunk?”
