Susie and the Secret Drawer

Susie finds a hidden drawer that opens into a bright, magical world full of strange sounds, curious creatures, and a whisper about an important mission.

One afternoon, Susie was alone in her room, where everything felt dull and still. She was pushing toys into place when she noticed the old chest of drawers by the wall. At the very bottom was a drawer she had never really looked at before.

She pulled it open.

Knock, knock.

The sound was tiny, but it came from inside the drawer. Susie frowned and leaned closer. Soft lights were spinning in the dark, glowing like fireflies trapped in a jar. She slipped her fingers inside, and the drawer shivered.

Then it grew.

It stretched wider and wider until it was as tall as a door. A cool, whispery breeze brushed Susie’s face. Her heart thumped, but curiosity tugged her forward. She took one careful step, then another, and the drawer carried her somewhere else entirely.

Suddenly she was standing in a world that sparkled with colour. Giant mushrooms rose above her like umbrellas. Transparent butterflies floated from leaf to leaf. Somewhere close by, a strange little laugh giggled through the air.

Susie turned her head.

A red squirrel was balancing on a green umbrella, while a line of smiling frogs hopped underneath it as if this was the most ordinary thing in the world.

Then a figure peeped out from behind a huge flower. It wore a hat made of leaves, and its eyes were bright and serious. It bent toward Susie and whispered, “Shh. We need you. An important mission is waiting...”

Susie stood very still. What mission? And why did the whole strange world suddenly seem to be holding its breath?
