Susie and the Rainbow Gate

In her garden, Susie finds a glowing rainbow gate hiding behind a currant bush. When she opens it, something on the other side seems to be waiting for her.

One sunny afternoon, Susie was playing in the garden behind the house. She leaped over puddles, picked daisies, and chased a yellow butterfly that danced through the grass.

Then, behind a big currant bush, she saw something that made her stop still.

It was a gate. Not a plain gate, but one striped in bright rainbow colours. Tiny bells hung from the top, and they gave a soft, sleepy chime. The gate gave off a gentle glow, as if it had been waiting there for a very long time.

Susie took a step closer. The air around her felt suddenly cool. She looked left. She looked right. No one was there. Only the bushes rustling, and the quiet little bells ringing once more.

She touched the gate with one finger.

A breeze slipped past her cheek. On the other side, something small and quick darted across the light. Then another. Susie’s heart gave a little jump.
