Susie and the Moon Robot

Susie and her friends find a tiny robot from the moon hiding in the garden, and a glowing map leads them toward a strange secret.

One bright afternoon, Susie was playing in the garden. Fafik the dog was bouncing through the grass, and her little brother Franek was building the tallest sand mountain in the world. Susie knelt to pick up a shiny pebble when she heard a tiny buzzing sound.

She looked down and froze. In the grass sat a little silver robot, no bigger than Susie’s hand. Its blue eyes blinked once. A thin antenna on its back flickered like a spark. Fafik leaned in and sniffed it carefully.

"Who are you?" Susie asked.

The robot lifted its round head. "I am Miku," it said in a soft, crackly voice. "I came from the moon. I got lost on my way home."

Franek stared. Then his face lit up. "We can help you!"

Miku reached out a tiny metal arm and unfolded a shiny map. Little coloured dots glowed on it, one after another, as if they were waking up. Susie held the map with both hands. The dots pointed past the flower bed, past the old apple tree, and toward the back of the garden.

The children followed the trail at once. They tiptoed through rustling bushes, hopped over a muddy puddle, and found a glowing stone tucked beneath the tree roots. Then the sun slipped behind a cloud, and the garden turned cool and still.

Susie looked at the map again. One of the dots was flashing red now.

She swallowed hard and whispered, "Miku, Franek... look. Something is shining under that bush."
