Stasiek and Lotek on the Planet of Lights

Stasiek and his space rabbit ride a tiny rocket to a glowing planet, where strange lights begin to vanish and a mystery waits in the dark forest.

Stasiek loved the stars. Every night he pressed his nose to the window and counted the twinkles until his eyes grew sleepy. He liked to imagine that his stuffed rabbit, Lotek, knew every planet in the sky.

One evening, just as Stasiek was drifting off, a tiny pink rocket slid into his bedroom with a soft hum. Lotek sat up on the bed, one ear standing straight and one eye shining in the moonlight.

"Time to go," said Lotek. "The Planet of Lights is waiting."

Stasiek blinked. Then he laughed, a little gasp of joy catching in his throat. He climbed into the rocket beside Lotek and clicked the belt shut. The rocket gave a cheerful whirr, bounced once on the floor, and shot through the open window.

They flew past silver stars and round blue planets and glowing clouds that shimmered like spun sugar. Then, ahead of them, one world began to shine brighter and brighter, full of pink, gold, green, and violet light. It sparkled like a treasure in the dark. That must be the Planet of Lights.

The rocket landed in a soft patch of glittery grass. The air smelled warm and sweet. Tiny creatures floated up at once, bobbing around the rocket like little lanterns. They were purple, yellow, and green, and their lights winked happily at Stasiek and Lotek.

But then the biggest light of all gave a tiny flicker.

It blinked once. Twice. And slowly, right before their eyes, it began to fade.

The other lights went still. The glowing creatures stopped dancing and turned toward the dark forest at the edge of the field. From deep between the trees came a low, rumbling sound, as if something enormous had just taken one careful step forward.

Stasiek grabbed Lotek's paw. In the black shadow of the forest, something moved again.
