Secret Mission in the Smile Lab

Three high school students break into an abandoned dental clinic and uncover a hidden lab testing a strange vaccine against tooth decay.

On Friday afternoon, while the rest of the school was already halfway into the weekend, Lena, Kuba, and Dawid stood in front of the abandoned dental clinic at the edge of town. The building had been empty for years, its windows clouded with dust, its sign twisted by rust, but the rumours had never stopped: hidden rooms, sealed corridors, something still working behind the walls.

Kuba shoved at a warped side door until a sheet of fibreboard tore loose with a crack. He grinned like the whole place was already his. Lena didn’t smile. She was staring at the ground.

Fresh footprints marked the sand near the entrance.

That was enough to make Dawid lower his flashlight. The beam slid across peeling paint, old posters with bright teeth and fake cheerful slogans, and a corridor that smelled sharply of chlorine and something medicinal beneath it. The clinic should have felt dead. Instead, it felt recently used.

They moved deeper inside, stepping over cracked tiles and faded notices about brushing and check-ups. In the half-light, an old fire cabinet stood crooked against the wall. Lena stopped when she saw the scratch marks around its frame.

“Someone moved it,” she whispered.

Her fingers found the hidden latch behind the cabinet. The metal gave way with a grinding click, and the wall opened just enough to reveal a narrow concrete passage descending into darkness.

Kuba let out a breath that was almost a laugh. “You have to be kidding me.”

No one answered. They went in.

The air grew colder with every step. The smell changed too, from dust and bleach to chemicals and something sweetly sharp that Lena couldn’t place. At the end of the passage, a heavy steel door waited under a small plaque: Smile Laboratory. No Entry.

A pale light leaked from the gap beneath it.

Dawid raised the flashlight and the three of them stared through the opening as the door swung wider. Inside was a lab no abandoned clinic should have held: rows of glass tubes, humming machines, trays of labelled samples, and a monitor glowing in the corner with a line of text Lena read twice before she understood it.

Caries vaccine - testing.
To be injected: 3 doses.

Then something shifted in the shadows behind the equipment.

All three froze.

A woman in a white coat stepped out from behind a shelf, her face hidden by a surgical mask, her eyes sharp and alert above it. She looked at them for a long second, as if she had been expecting them all along.

“You came at exactly the wrong time,” she said. “Now you need to decide whether you really want the truth.”
