Lena, David, and Sophie slip into the forbidden vaults beneath Windblown Academy and wake an ancient rune circle that opens a path the school was meant to forget.
Wind battered the glass domes of Windblown Academy of Magic and threaded through its stone corridors like a voice that knew too much. Beneath the library, past the locked archive stacks and the wards that hummed against the skin, a narrower passage waited in the dark. On Friday evening, Lena, David, and Sophie slipped into it with a lantern, a borrowed map, and the kind of curiosity that was already halfway to trouble.
Lena led them, all sharp focus and restless nerve, one hand skimming the wall as if the stone itself might warn her. David stayed close behind, his eyes catching every flicker of light from the lantern, every shift in shadow. Sophie paused at the threshold long enough to lift a moss-furred key from the floor, as though it had been left there for exactly this moment.
"This is it," Lena said, though her voice was lower than usual. She touched a ring of carved symbols set into the wall, and the air gave a faint, electric shiver. David checked the map again, then looked up with a slow frown. "The old workshop," he murmured. "If Professor Mirna was right, it should be beyond here."
Sophie crouched beside the circle and traced the nearest rune without touching it. The lines answered at once, flaring scarlet under her gaze. A breath of heat rolled out from the stone, followed by the smell of incense, dust, and something older than the academy itself. Then the wall ahead began to grind open, revealing a spiral staircase dropping into blackness.
They had barely taken the first steps when the darkness below moved. A heavy удар shook the stairwell, the lantern flame guttered, and every rune on the wall went dead at once. At the foot of the stairs, a figure in a silver mask stood where there had been nothing a heartbeat before, one hand lifted as if to stop them or summon them closer. Behind him, mist gathered in a wavering archway, glowing faintly from within, as though something on the other side had just noticed them looking back.
