The Bell of Linden School

An ordinary school morning turns strange when Igor, Maja, Wojtek, and Lena find a hidden message, mysterious buttons, and a secret door no one knew was there.

Linden School looked perfectly ordinary that morning. Hallways rang with shouting, chairs scraped across the floor, and Mr. Tomasz the caretaker was watering the flowers by the entrance as if nothing in the world could surprise him.

Igor, Maja, Wojtek, and Lena came into class thinking it would be just another day of lessons, homework, and the usual race to the break room. But after maths, when the clock on the wall showed exactly 10:10, the bell did not ring.

Instead, a soft, strange chime drifted through the corridor. It sounded nothing like the usual school bell. It was light and clear, almost like an old music box hidden somewhere in the walls.

The class fell silent.

Mrs Ela looked up from her desk and smiled, though she seemed a little uncertain too. “Probably a fault,” she said. “We’ll deal with it after break.”

But Igor was already looking toward the corridor.

Under the old notice board, where there had only been peeling paper and dust the day before, three small buttons gleamed in the light. One was shaped like a star. One was a heart. The third looked like an old-fashioned key.

“Hey,” Igor whispered. “That wasn’t there yesterday.”

Maja hurried over first, her eyes wide. “Do you think someone hid them for a game?”

Wojtek crouched beside the board and frowned. On the blackboard above the buttons, silver letters had appeared in neat, curling handwriting:

Open the right button and you will discover the secret of the school.

Lena read it twice, then once more, as if the words might change. “That’s not normal,” she said quietly.

“Nothing about this feels normal,” Igor muttered.

Wojtek lifted his hand, hesitated for just a second, and pressed the key-shaped button.

At once, a low shiver ran through the wall beside the board. Dust drifted down from the frame. Then, with a sound like a hidden lock turning deep inside the building, a narrow door slowly appeared where there had been only plain brick a moment before.

It stood half open.

A pale blue light spilled out from the crack.

The four friends froze, staring at the door in disbelief. Then, from somewhere beyond it, came a whisper so soft they almost thought they had imagined it:

“Come in. It’s time to learn the secret of Linden School...”
