Susie discovers a glowing portal under her bed and falls into a strange world of giant flowers, blue squirrels, and a shadow that seems to be watching.
Susie liked to lie in bed and let her thoughts drift like clouds. But tonight, as she tucked her blanket under her chin, she heard a soft buzzing sound coming from under the bed.
She leaned over and peered into the dark. There, shining on the floorboards, was a circle of light. It swirled and sparkled in rainbow colours, as if someone had spun a tiny storm of glitter.
Susie held her breath. Then she reached out a finger and touched it.
The circle gave a gentle tug. Before she could even squeak, the room vanished. Leaves brushed her cheeks. Warm air tickled her nose. She landed on a soft, crackling carpet of golden leaves, surrounded by flowers taller than her head. Their petals were bright as paint pots. Blue squirrels in tiny hats darted along the branches above her, chattering to one another.
One squirrel skidded to a stop at Susie’s feet and pressed a paw to its mouth. “Shh,” it whispered. “Hide. Something is coming...”
Susie turned. Behind a giant leaf, a huge shadow moved very slowly, and then two shining eyes opened in the dark.
