Ola and Fluffy on the Moon

Ola and her kitten Fluffy fly to the moon in a homemade rocket and find strange footprints, a glowing stone, and a whisper in the dark.

Ola loved the night sky. Every evening, she and her kitten Fluffy sat by the window and counted the stars, one by one, until their eyes grew sleepy.

One day, Ola built a rocket from cardboard boxes. She painted it bright red and gold, with big stars all over the sides. Fluffy watched every step, twitching his tail as if he knew something wonderful was about to happen.

When the rocket was ready, Ola climbed in and fastened her helmet. Fluffy wore a tiny one that made his ears stick out funnily. Ola pressed a shiny button.

Whoosh!

The rocket jumped into the sky. It soared through white clouds and past the blue curve of Earth, which looked small and quiet far below. Ola held on tight as the moon grew bigger and bigger outside the window.

At last, the rocket landed with a soft bump on the grey moon dust.

Ola stepped out first. Her boots left neat marks in the powdery ground. Fluffy hopped after her, looking left and right with wide eyes.

Then Ola stopped.

Ahead of them were footprints. Not hers. Not Fluffy’s. They led around a large silver stone that glowed with a faint blue light.

Ola bent closer. The air felt still and strange.

“Come on, Fluffy,” she whispered. “Let’s see what’s there.”

They crept forward, one careful step at a time. The blue glow grew brighter, and from behind the silver stone came a soft sound, small and clear, like someone on the moon was calling their names.
