Night Patrol in the Land of Teeth

Strange bacteria have settled in the hidden Land of Teeth, and Lena and Kacper are sent out on a dangerous night patrol to protect the white castles from Plakus.

The Land of Teeth lay just beneath the surface of every smile, hidden behind enamel walls and shadowed by gums. By day, it was noisy with chewing, rinsing, and the endless traffic of crumbs. But at night, when everything quieted and breath moved like mist through the valleys, the real work began.

That night mattered more than most. Lena stood on the edge of Toothcroft and tightened the silver clasp of her coat, the moonlight catching on the polished metal of her toothbrush-blade. She ran a hand over the bristles, testing their edge, then glanced at Kacper. He answered by biting into a carrot with a loud, determined crunch, as if that alone could drive off anything lurking in the dark.

For weeks, rumours had been spreading through the Land of Teeth. Plakus was back.

No one said the name casually. Plakus was the kind of bacteria that waited in forgotten corners and thin, unreachable seams, where floss had missed its chance and a speck of sugar had gone to hide. If it reached one of the Molar Towers, the damage would spread fast. A stain. A smell. Then worse.

Lena and Kacper crossed the glazed bridge in silence, their boots tapping softly against the sheen of the path. The air smelled sharp and cold, filled with the clean bite of fresh breath. Ahead, the white towers rose out of the darkness like something carved from moonbone. Somewhere beyond them, a thin sound drifted through the stillness.

A laugh.

Lena stopped so suddenly that Kacper nearly bumped into her. The sound came again, faint but unmistakable, from the direction of the thirteenth tooth. A thin black flicker moved there, quick as a blink.

"Did you see that?" she whispered.

Kacper did not answer. He was staring at the seam between two teeth, where a narrow crevice opened like a hidden door. Old stories said only the boldest rangers ever went through it. Lena drew a paste-guard from her belt and stepped closer.

The murmurs were louder now. Not one voice, but several.

Plakus was close.

Lena lifted her chin and whispered, "Ready?"

Kacper nodded once.

They reached the thirteenth tooth together, and the shadow inside it shifted. Something moved where no light should have reached. Then a voice scraped out of the dark, dry and ancient as a cracked brush handle.

"Who dares enter my hole?"
