Night Mission in Fluorite City

Lena, Igor, and Maks leave the Secret Academy of Oral Hygiene and stumble into a spreading darkness beneath Fluorite City, where something has begun to awaken underground.

Fluorite City never really slept. Its neon clinics glowed over the avenues, toothpaste ads flashed across tower screens, and even at midnight the air carried a cold, clean sting of mint. Beneath it all ran the Secret Academy of Oral Hygiene, where Lena, Igor, and Maks had just finished another long shift of drills, formulas, and impossible machines built to keep the city’s famous teeth bright and alive.

They were heading out through the side gate when Lena stopped so abruptly that Maks nearly walked into her. At her feet, in the pale cone of a tooth-shaped lantern, the pavement had gone dark. Not dirty. Not wet. Dark in a way that seemed to drink the light. The stain spread with slow purpose, curling between the stones like ink searching for a crack.

Maks crouched, frowned, and drew his hand back at once. Something underneath the black sheen made a faint, greedy sloshing sound. Igor went still beside them, his hood half-shadowing his face as the mint smell in the air turned sour. Then the first creature surfaced. It was small at first, no bigger than a rat, but its body shone with a slick green gleam, and the jagged teeth in its mouth clicked like tiny blades. More followed, dragging themselves out of the dark as if the street had split open to let them through.

Igor swore under his breath. Lena reached into her backpack and pulled out her sonic-plasma toothbrush. Maks unscrewed the cap on a bottle of concentrated mouthwash, the liquid inside catching the lantern light like pale fire. The creatures circled them, hissing as they grew bolder, and one lifted its head and spoke with a voice like wet metal scraping stone.

“The Fluorites are already gone,” it hissed. “Your city won’t survive the Trunks.”

Before anyone could answer, a low groan rolled up from somewhere beneath the street. Far ahead, beyond the rows of glowing towers, a black gate in the ground began to rise, slow and heavy, as if something enormous below had finally decided to come up. Then footsteps thundered toward them from the opening, fast and uneven, and Lena realised the sound was not coming to help.
