The Mystery of the Tree House

Basia and Kuba build a tree house in the garden and find a tiny golden key with strange symbols. When they discover a hidden door, a blue light begins to glow behind it.

Basia and Kuba loved making things together, and that morning they turned Basia’s garden into a building site. They dragged in a board, a little hammer, and a heap of bright cushions, then climbed into the tree house they had made with their own hands.

The air inside smelled of leaves and warm wood. Basia was tucking the cushions into the corners when something flashed beneath a fold of grass. She reached down and picked up a tiny golden key.

It was small enough to sit on her palm, but it did not look ordinary at all. A star, a moon, and a cat were scratched into its side.

Kuba leaned closer. “What do you think it opens?” he whispered.

They peered around the tree house, looking under the bench, behind the cushions, and into every shady corner. Then Kuba froze. In the far wall, half hidden by a beam, was a tiny door they had never seen before.

Basia and Kuba crouched beside it. The key slid into the lock as if it had been waiting there all along.

Basia turned it slowly.

The door creaked open, and a soft blue light spilled out into the tree house...
