At night, Basia and her teddy bear Franko hear a strange rustling coming from the wardrobe. Together, they creep closer to discover what is hiding inside.
Moonlight spilled through the window, turning Basia's room silver and grey. Basia was tucked under her blanket, hugging her teddy bear Franko, when a soft rustle came from the wardrobe.
Basia opened her eyes wide. Franko did too, at least it felt that way.
The sound came again. Scratch, rustle, shiver.
Franko squeezed closer. Basia held him tight and listened. Nothing else moved in the room. Only the wardrobe stood in the corner, dark and still, with its door shut just a little too tightly.
Basia swallowed. Was it a hanger swinging? Was something caught inside? Or was there really someone in there?
She slid out of bed and stood on tiptoe. The floor was cold under her feet. Franko came with her, held in both arms now like a brave little shield.
Another rustle fluttered from behind the door.
Basia reached out her hand. Her fingers touched the knob. She took one tiny breath, pulled the wardrobe door open, and froze.
Inside, right in the dark, something small and strange moved again.
