Zosia and her kitten Ficus follow a trail of silver feathers into the enchanted forest, where a tiny voice calls for help and something under a giant leaf begins to stir.
Behind Zosia's house stretched a deep green forest, full of whispering branches and moss-soft paths. Zosia loved slipping in there with her kitten, Ficus, who trotted at her heels like a tiny shadow with whiskers.
One bright morning, she found something shining beneath an old oak tree: a silver feather, fine as frost and bright as moonlight. Zosia bent closer. “Ficus, look. A fairy feather,” she whispered.
Ficus gave a soft mew and twitched his ears. Soon the pair were following a trail of silver feathers that led deeper and deeper between the trees. The air grew strange and lovely there. Little laughs floated from nowhere. Gentle humming drifted through the leaves. Sunlight flashed on the moss like scattered stars.
Then Zosia stopped so fast that Ficus nearly bumped into her shoe. A voice, small and shaky, called out, “Help!”
She turned in a circle, but saw only ferns, roots, and shadows. Then she noticed two tiny silver wings poking out from under a giant, crinkled leaf.
Zosia and Ficus crept closer. The leaf quivered once.
Then it moved again.
