Mr Frederick has the funniest hat in town, and it does not always stay still. One sunny day in the park, his hat gives everyone a surprise.
In a bright, cheerful town lived Mr Frederick. He had a candyfloss beard, round glasses, and the strangest hat in the world. It was huge, checked, covered in feathers, and had a little bell that jingled whenever he sneezed. But Mr Frederick’s hat was not an ordinary hat. Some mornings it held biscuits. Some mornings it held a feather. Once, it even held a tiny frog.
One sunny day, Mr Frederick went to the park wearing his hat. He sat on a bench, fed the pigeons, and hummed a silly tune to himself. The hat began to wobble.
Mr Frederick blinked. “What are you up to now?” he asked, lifting the brim a little.
The hat gave a shiver, puffed itself up, and then let out a loud, wobbly snort.
On the next bench sat a girl called Zosia. She stared at the hat with her mouth open. “It sounds like a frog trying not to laugh,” she whispered.
Before Mr Frederick could answer, the hat sprang into the air, spun twice, and landed neatly on the branch of an old tree.
Mr Frederick, Zosia, and every pigeon in the park looked up.
Then, from deep inside the hat, came a strange little voice:
“CUM-CUM!”
