Martynka finds a tiny silver key in her garden and follows its trail to a little door hidden in the hedge. The lock fits exactly, but what waits behind it?
Martynka loved her garden best in the early morning, when the flowers were still wet with dew and everything felt quiet and bright.
One morning, while she watered her marigolds, something flashed under a strawberry leaf. Martynka crouched down and picked up a tiny silver key. It was so small it almost disappeared in her palm.
She looked all around the garden. There was no box, no padlock, no lost chain. Only the rustle of the hedge and the soft drip of water from her can.
"How strange," Martynka whispered. "I wonder what you open."
She peered behind the rose bush, then under the old swing. At last, near the back of the hedge, she saw something she had never noticed before. A small round door was tucked between the leaves. It had a golden handle and a keyhole that shone in the morning light.
Martynka’s fingers tightened around the key. It looked exactly the right size.
She took one careful step closer. Then another.
The tiny silver key slipped into the lock with a soft click, and the door gave a little shiver from the other side.
