Maja and Philip find plants in their garden that grow with their feelings. One morning, a silver branch appears, and something strange stirs beneath the soil.
Maja and Philip lived in a bright little house at the edge of the woods. Behind it was a garden unlike any other. In that garden, feelings made things grow.
When the children were happy, small yellow flowers opened their soft petals. When Philip felt brave, a tall green leaf shot up like a little flag. And when Maja got cross, red berries popped out among the beds, shiny and sharp as pinpricks.
The children watched the garden every day. They watered it carefully, whispered to it, and laughed when it changed.
Then one morning, while sunlight slipped through the trees, Maja stopped in the middle of the path.
Something new was growing there.
A silver branch curled up from the soil, thin and bright, as if it had been made from moonlight. It was nothing like the other plants. Philip took one quick breath. Maja squeezed his hand.
"Where did that come from?" she whispered.
Philip stared at the shining twig. "I don’t know," he said. "But it wasn’t here yesterday."
The branch kept rising. A soft blue glow trembled along its tip, and the whole garden seemed to hold still. Joy fluttered in Maja’s chest. Curiosity tickled Philip’s nose. And under it all was a tiny prick of fear.
They tried to think back to the evening before. Had they been sad? Angry? Had they missed something important?
Then the soil beside the silver branch gave a small, shaky wiggle.
