Kuba, Lena, and Maks discover strange powers and a hidden underground room beneath their school, where an old iron door starts whispering for them to open it.
Primary School No. 15 looked perfectly ordinary from the outside, with its peeling paint, crooked flagpole, and noisy playground. But Kuba, Lena, and Maks had learned that ordinary places could hide the strangest secrets.
They had been friends since first grade. Now, in fifth grade, everything around them seemed to be shifting. First came the little odd things they couldn’t explain. A pencil that rolled to the exact spot Kuba wanted. Lena lifting a heavy box as if it were made of cardboard. Maks feeling a breeze no one else could sense, even in a locked classroom.
That autumn afternoon, they stayed behind after school to finish a football game on the pitch. Most of the pupils had already gone home, and the sun was dropping low behind the building. Maks was chasing the ball when something near the old wall caught his eye.
Half-buried under dry leaves was a metal grate.
"Oi, look at that!" Maks shouted.
Kuba ran over first and bent down to grab it. The grate did not budge. He tugged harder, grunting with effort, but it stayed stuck.
Lena stepped closer, brushing her fingers over the rusted bars.
The grate lifted at once.
Kuba stared at her. "You just..." He stopped, blinking. "How did you do that?"
Lena frowned at her own hand, just as confused as he was.
Below the opening, narrow steps disappeared into the ground.
Maks leaned in, his eyes bright. "That looks like a secret entrance."
The three of them exchanged one quick look. Then Kuba climbed down first, with Lena right behind him and Maks bringing up the rear. The air grew colder with every step. At the bottom, they found an old iron door covered in scratched symbols and strange looping lines.
Kuba reached for the handle.
A whisper brushed past his ear.
Not loud. Not quite a voice. Just enough to make him freeze.
Then a soft blue light sparked on his hand.
Lena gasped as a faint heat spread through her palm, sharp and alive. Maks stumbled back, suddenly too light on his feet, as if the ground had forgotten how to hold him.
They stared at one another in the dim underground dark.
Behind the iron door, something moved.
And then it knocked once from the other side.
