Helen's Grandmother Clock

Tosia and Mikhail find an old clock in their grandmother Helena's attic and are swept into the past, where a curious triceratops suddenly appears before them.

Tosia and Mikhail loved visiting their grandmother Helena. Her house always smelled of warm cake, and every room seemed to hide a secret.

One rainy afternoon, the children climbed into the attic to play. The rain tapped softly on the roof, and the dusty beams made long shadows on the floor. In the far corner stood a tall old clock with a heavy pendulum. Tosia blinked. "Mikhail, look! I've never seen this here before!"

Mikhail stepped closer. Strange little marks were carved into the wood, and there was a smiling sun just above the clock face. It looked as if the clock was waiting for them.

Tosia lifted her hand and pressed the tiny golden button.

At once, the clock began to tick, loud and fast. The hands spun round and round. A whirl of bright light burst from the clock, flashing gold, blue, and green all around them. Tosia grabbed Mikhail's sleeve. The attic tilted, the floor vanished, and for one dizzy moment it felt as if they were flying.

Then everything went still.

The attic was gone.

Tosia and Mikhail stood in a wide green meadow under a sky so blue it almost shone. Tall ferns rustled in the warm breeze, and huge shapes moved in the distance. Tosia looked around, her mouth open.

Right in front of them stood a triceratops. It was enormous. It was curious. And it was looking straight at them.
