Four teenagers break into an abandoned school for a horror-film contest, but the building answers them with sounds, warnings, and something waiting in the dark.
The old school had been empty for years, yet in the moonlight it still looked awake, as if it were holding its breath. Zuzka, Bartek, Lena, and Michal stood outside the rusted gate with backpacks full of snacks, a flashlight, and a night camera that Bartek kept checking like it might save them if things went wrong.
"Are we really doing this?" Lena asked. She looked nervous, but the grin tugging at her mouth gave her away.
"We have to," Bartek said, gripping the gate. "If we catch something decent, we win the amateur horror-film contest."
Michal pushed the gate open. It screamed across the yard, loud enough to make everyone flinch. They crossed the weeds toward the school, its brick walls cracked and stained with age, windows dark as blind eyes. The front door hung open, waiting.
Zuzka went in first, sweeping the beam of her flashlight over a corridor thick with dust. Their footsteps bounced back at them from the walls, too loud, too sharp. Somewhere above, something heavy scraped across the floor.
"Did you hear that?" Michal whispered.
Lena lifted the camera and kept recording. "Probably the wind."
But the wind did not whisper.
They moved deeper inside. In the biology room, broken jars still lined the shelves, and a recent message had been scrawled across the blackboard in white chalk: DO NOT ENTER.
Nobody spoke after that.
At the end of the corridor, a staircase climbed into darkness. Faint voices drifted down from the floor above, thin as static, impossible to make out. Bartek swallowed hard and looked at the others.
"Tell me that wasn't you," he said.
No one answered.
Then, as they put one foot on the first step, the light overhead snapped on all at once, and something moved at the top of the stairs.
