Crazy Day at Socktown

In Socktown, socks love mischief. Pea Sock gets a strawberry-scented invitation to the Most Twisted Sock contest, but a mysterious laugh in the wardrobe hints that something strange is about to happen.

In Socktown, every sock had a drawer of its own and plenty of time for mischief. This morning, Pea Sock woke up much earlier than usual. Something was resting on her pillow.

It was a letter, tied shut with a red button. It smelled of strawberries, which made Pea Sock sniff it twice before she tore it open.

She read aloud, bouncing with every word: "Great Competition for the Most Twisted Sock! The winner will become Sock King for a whole week and will receive a golden pincher for the fanciest fiddles! Come to Sock Square at 11 o'clock."

"A competition!" squeaked Pea Sock. She jumped so high that she tumbled out of her drawer and rolled straight under the bed, where her best friend, Sock Dot, was already hiding with a grin.

"We have to think of the best twist ever," Pea Sock whispered.

Then, from the wardrobe, came a soft, sneaky laugh.

The door creaked open a tiny bit. A long, colourful Sock-Banana slid out from behind the hanging clothes and winked at them.

"You still don’t know what today is really going to be like," it whispered.

Pea Sock and Sock Dot stared at each other. Sock Square was waiting. The competition was waiting. And now Sock-Banana was smiling like it knew a secret nobody else did.
