Kacper finds a strange purple hat in the attic, and it immediately starts causing funny trouble. Then the attic gets even stranger, and something puzzling begins to float toward him.
One rainy afternoon, Kacper climbed the creaky stairs to the attic with both hands on the banister. The house smelled like dust, old books, and wet socks from the hallway below. He liked the attic best when it was stormy outside. That was when the boxes seemed to hide the most interesting secrets.
He knelt beside a pile of striped blankets and tugged out a huge purple hat covered in bright feathers. It was so big it looked like it belonged to a wizard, or maybe a very fancy chicken. Kacper laughed and plopped it onto his head.
The hat sneezed.
"Achoo!"
Kacper squealed and nearly fell over. A long, whiskery tail popped out from under the brim and flicked his nose. The hat gave a pleased little wiggle.
"Hello, Kacper," it said in a cheerful voice. "I’m the Mischief Hat. Looking for adventure?"
Before Kacper could answer, the attic door slammed shut with a bang. Puffs of colourful bubbles burst out of the hat and bounced across the floor. One bubble drifted straight toward him, and inside it something tiny was turning and turning, as if trying to get out...
