Kacper and the Flying Pancake

Kacper loves Tuesday pancakes, but this Tuesday breakfast takes a wild turn when one pancake shoots out of the kitchen and disappears into the garden.

Kacper lived in a little yellow house at the end of Tulip Street. He loved Tuesday most of all, because Tuesday meant pancakes with jam.

That morning, he sat at the table with his feet swinging, watching his mum flip the first pancake. Up it went, neat as you like. Down it came. Then up it went again, but this time it bumped the chandelier, bounced off with a wobble, and landed right on Pea the dog’s head. Pea gave a delighted bark, shook himself, and the pancake slid down his back, zipped along his tail, and shot out through the open window.

"My pancake!" cried Kacper. "It’s escaped!"

He rushed into the garden. But the pancake was not falling. It was spinning. It was whirling. Then it soared over the fence as if it had somewhere very important to be.

Pea barked and dashed in circles. Kacper blinked hard. His mum leaned out of the window, mouth open.

Then came a tiny giggle from the bushes.

Kacper froze. Something small and bright yellow was waving at him from the leaves. It looked a bit like a second pancake. Or maybe it wasn’t a pancake at all.

Kacper took one careful step closer, and the bushes shook again...
